Sydney Eating Episode Day 4

My second last day and I felt like I was running out of time to eat as much of Sydney as I could. So I made sure it was a full blown day of eating. Brunch, dinner followed by late dinner.

Red Chilli Sichuan Chinatown Kung Pao Chicken $16.80

Red Chilli Sichuan Kung Pow Chicken

Deep fried chicken pieces with very hot dry chillis. This was loaded with chillis and flavour. It was fun digging out the chicken and each piece had a real kick to it.

This was my first experience of sichuan and it was hot, hot, hot! I’ve never experienced spiciness to the point where your mouth actually goes numb. My boyfriend and I were both sweating by the end of the meal. It was delicious don’t get me wrong, but I’m glad they offered a milky cold tea to easy the pain.

Mamak’s Menu

A part of eating roti which I enjoy is when I can see them actually making it. At the front of the shop there is always at least 3 stations where the staff are tossing and teasing the pastry.

Roti Planta $6.50

A buttery roti with two dipping sauces and a dollop of sambal.

Roti Planta Innards $6.50

The Innards was packed full of butter.

Telur Bawang $7.00

The sweet onion was very thinly sliced so it was not too overpowering and the egg went nicely with it.

Ayam Goreng $14 for four pieces or $4 each

Mamak Ayam Goreng

Amazing in colour and crunch. It was so tasty that I almost burnt my tongue trying to eat it when I should have let it cool down because it was fresh out of the deep fryer.

Ais Kacang $6.00

They were very generous with the syrups so it was very sweet.

Teh Ais $3.50

No foam!

Roti Tisu $9.50

Mamak Famous Roti Tisu

The best part of the night… dessert. Good to look at and great to eat. Crispy, paper-thin perfect roti. What you can’t see in the picture is the inside of the roti. It has crystals of sugar which has been caramelised and it tasted amazing!

Wagaya’s Menu

Wagaya’s concept it simple. You order off a touch screen which shows you the description, price and picture the menu items and shortly after the staff arrive with your meals. The touch screen is fun to order off and you can even order water off the touch screen.

Wagaya Menu

A very extensive menu.

You can’t wrong with soft shell crab sushi. It’s probably one of the best sushi flavours.  There are a few places that do it in Perth.

Scampi Fry Roll

Deep fried scampi inside out sushi with a drizzling of spicy mayo.

Spider Roll

Wagaya Soft Shell Crab Sushi

Same as the scampi fry roll but with soft shell crab.

Wagyu Steak

Charred, melt in your mouth wagyu steak pieces on a sizzling plate with mushrooms.

Butter Scallops

Wagaya Butter Scallops

These chunky buttery scallops were very tasty.

Tantan Ramen

Wagaya Tantan Ramen

A very thick and tasty ramen. I enjoyed this ramen more then the one I tried at Ramen-kan because the soup was tastier and the noodles were a better texture.

Homemade Coal BBQ Pizza Episode

It’s only fitting that my first post should feature something delicious, fun and full of bacon bits. It’s Labour Day long weekend so there isn’t a better time to whip out the mini Weber BBQ and try something different. I decided to redeem my Barbecues Galore voucher and bought a pizza stone and spatula set for $39.

My First Ever Pizza Dough (See Recipes)

My First Ever Pizza Dough

The Pizza dough could have been better as I had misread the recipe and did not have enough semolina flour nor the resting time for the dough. It did not have those crispy bubble bursts throughout the crust as I would have liked to have achieve. Having said that, everyone enjoyed the flavours of the dough and the smokiness of the coal plus hickory wood which made up for the texture.

Salami, spicy sausage, ham off the bone and thinly sliced smokey spec bacon.

mmm meaty…

Smokey Pizza Stone and a Giant Spatula

Smokey goodness and a huge spactula

You can see the smokiness of the coal and hickory wood which was amazing. This was a Chicken and Bacon pizza with Mushroom Sauce and BBQ Sauce Swirl.

The sweetness of the pineapple and the tang of the BBQ went well with the mountain of meat.

I felt like being creative and made a dessert pizza in the shape of a love heart. By the time I took the photo the ice cream had melted and it makes the pizza look a bit sad. It was indeed a happy pizza as we were all very happy to eat it.
