Homemade Episode – Home Made Churros
It’s been a while since my regular posting, I’ve been super busy with a great new job. I now have a new area to venture out for food.
I use to love going out to eat tacos and then ending my night with some kind of pastry like waffles or churros. Today, I’d like to share with you the easiest churro recipe, within 20mins you have an crowd pleasing favourite and on top of that, you may never go out to buy churros again.
We had Foodie Cravings and burger boy over for dinner and the night started out with a display of MYO tacos.
Homemade Shredded Beef Tacos
I made shredded beef tacos in the slow cooker and should have taken more photos!
The condiments include cheese, diced tomatoes, lettuce, cheese, sour cream and choice of either soft or hard shell tacos.
Burger boy even graced us with his new guacamole making skills learned from Crust.
Homemade Churros with Melted Chocolate and Strawberries
The four of us ended up eating this whole plate of crispy goodness.
Churro Recipe
Recipe adapted fromĀ Allrecipes
2 1/2 tablespoons white sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 cup all-purpose flour
approx. 4 cups of oil, enough for frying
1/2 cup white sugar, or to taste
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
A block of your favourite meltable chocolate optional
Fresh Strawberries optional
1. In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine water, 2 1/2 tablespoons sugar, salt and 2 tablespoons vegetable oil. Bring to a boil and remove from heat. Stir in flour until mixture forms a ball.
2. Let the dough rest for about 15mins in the fridge so it’s easier to pipe.
3. Heat oil for frying in deep-fryer or deep skillet to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
4. Add one third of the dough into a piping bag*, pipe strips of dough and have them lined up ready for deep frying. Repeat for the other two thirds of the dough.
5. Add one strip at a time to avoid sticking and fry until golden, drain on paper towels.
6. Combine 1/2 cup sugar and cinnamon. Roll drained churros in cinnamon and sugar mixture.
7. Melt chocolate and cut up the strawberries. Serve with the churros hot.
*I use the disposable piping bags in the baking section of the supermarket. For around $3.00 you can buy the Multix brand which includes 5 bags, 4 nozzles and coupler. I use the star nozzle with the eight points for a more crispy edge.
Piped Churros ready for deep frying
The dough ends up feeling like Play-Doh and it’s very easy to work with. I use rice bran oil which does not change the taste and is healthier for you.

I’ve had cravings for your churros ever since! When are we having them again?
You know strawberries are in season Foodie Cravings ; )

That Mexican feast looks fantastic. Someone asked me a few weeks ago which national cuisine I would pick if I could only ever have one for the rest of my life, and I picked Mexican.
And those churros – mmmm! I think I need to make these ASAP!
A wise choice Katy! I can’t wait to try the mexican food in states after watching so many food shows like Man VS Food =)
